Wk9: Crescent Moon Go On Rampage in Shock Win Over Wanderers

Dwarverhampton 1

Regan Dahlberg

Crescent Moon 3

Ali (2), Umar

A reversal in fortunes saw Crescent Moon complete their revenge and scupper any hopes of Dwarverhampton Wanderers had left for the Championship game.

Paulie Dahlberg, the hat-trick hero from Week 8, was a marked man and the vampires laid waste to reach their primary objective: to maim the dwarf runner. It was Ali the vampire who made the telling blow tonight as he injured Paulie as well as running in 2 touchdowns.

The result was a far cry from the promising start for Dwarverhampton, as they maximised their blitz as Yarpin the Troll Slayer almost killing the Guard Al-Ghazali in the opening hit of the game. Yarpin fortuitously caught the kick and promptly handed off to Paulie Dahlberg, the vampire’s nemesis from the reverse fixture. Encircled by braying thralls, Paulie was surfed losing possession of the ball which fell at the feet of Ali, who smashed Brooger Hoog’s knee before successfully converting the drive to take an early 1-0 lead.

The swiftness of the attack denied spectators of the delightful sight of a new player in the shape of a Deathroller. Turlak entered the fray with instantaneous results with a big hit on Uthman, but his illegal contribution did not go unnoticed by the referee and was ejected after Ali’s touchdown.

Turlak's brief introduction may be a sign of things to come for Dwarverhampton.

On the restart it was obvious that the Crescent Moon on defence had one thing on their mind, the permanent removal of Paulie Dahlberg. The defenders homed in on their target, and seemingly ignored the cage’s progress upfield, with Ali landing the highlight reel special to injure Paulie. The vampires’ unquenchable thirst for blood had the dwarfs unusually outnumbered. Disturbed, brother Regan hurried to equalise late in the half.

Crescent Moon were rewarded with a blitz on the second half kick, but showed how not to execute the advantage as the vampires had an impromptu snack on their team-mates. Low in support, Regan found himself isolated in his half and split the ball after a tackle by Ertugul the thrall. Umar took no hesitation to take the ball home for a defensive take-away. 2-1 and the half had barely begun!

Uthman the third vampire was not content in being outshone by his peers and he played his way into the dwarfen Book of Grudges with consecutive monster hits that killed tackling Troll slayers Zoltan Chivay and Yarpin Zigrin. It was an inspired moment of madness that drove the crowd wild with ecstasy. A look to the sidelines revealed Crescent Moon employing 3 apothecaries, oh how Dwarverhampton wished they had the paramedics.

Regan once more was charged with carrying the rock but was faced down by a hungry mob of thralls under the leadership of Ali, who knocked out the ball carrier and dodged his way out of the midfield quagmire towing the ball within his pale arms. Just six dwarfs remained on-field to witness a third unanswerable touchdown, all off whom were stunned on the ground.

Crescent Moon’s irresistible performance must be ranked as one of the most impressive of the season, though certainly out of the running for the Championship; the vampires are fast becoming the league’s number 1 entertainers!

For Dwarverhampton, the plagues of misfortune scupper all hopes of a playoff berth, but it’s the loss of both Troll Slayers that will take time to heal from. Yet the core ingredients are in place for a bright future in the Quiçama Middlelands Superleague.
