Week 6 of Season XI of the QMLS saw the top 4 in head-to-head action with the veterans, Bograts and Hashutites, running victorious to stretch away from the chasing pack. It's all to play for, however, with as many as ... separated by a mere ... points.
1. Bognor Bograts (Last Week: =1) Won 3-0 vs Metal Heads
Bograts showed great adaptability in defence with a pass rush that forced an interception and a ground game that forced the ball off-field - without touching the ball carrier! It's ten wins on the bounce and they continue to rely on the gutter runner quartet to cause damage.
2. Hashutites (=2) vs Won 1-0 vs EcuKhemrical Matters
After 2 weeks of struggle, the Hashutites of old returned to overcome what many perceived as a titanic bashing game. The Chorfs reduced their foes to 7 players before a quarter of the game had passed, and repeated their trick (with lots of claw) in the second to record a timely win that puts them in the driving seat for the post-season.
3. Darklands Resurrected (8) Won 2-0 vs Underearth Assassins
Darklands Resurrected jumped a huge 5 places into third in the Power Rankings after a fine victory over the beleaguered Underearth Assassins. Ghouls Corpsemuncher and Marrowravager ran amok using the huge strength advantage and capitalised on the Dark Elves misfortune.
4. Golden Eternals of Chaqua (5) Drew 1-1 vs Mega Smashers
The cold ones jump 1 spot in the Power Rankings even after squandering their chance to gain a foothold in the playoff race. Unlike the teams that the Lustrians leapfrogged, they did secure a point. It was a third successive draw as Otl du Lac grabbed a last minute equaliser and the blueskins find themselves third in the table on goal-difference and in pole position for a play off berth.
5. EcuKhemrical Matters (3) Lost 0-1 vs Hashutites
The Ancient Ones failed to turn up in the most anticipated clash of the week, as they were chewed out by the grinding machine of Hashutites. The gameplan to rely on Igor, to stitch up any injured Tomb Guardians, and a bribe, to punish any fallen dwarfs, instantaneously failed from kickoff. The Khemri uncharacteristically capitulated.
6. LT's Metal Heads (4) Lost 0-3 vs Bognor Bograts
The Metal Heads had a torrid afternoon chasing after rats. The gameplan to rally around mega-star, Zara the Slayer, was binned early in the first half as the Amazonian was gutted with Bernt Haas's razor sharp claws. The second half began just as badly as their offense was stopped for the first time this season. Nay, Devin and co., were stopped twice in a rout.
7. Spikerøg Draaks (5) Drew 1-1 vs OrcaLoca
The Norse are playing catch up after this stinging draw. It all seemed well in the first half, after they turned the screw through the Orc defence, and they seemed in control with their frightning Yhetee unleashing a powerful smash on the ball. But superior orcish armour came to the fore in the bashing game, which helped turn the tide and the Draaks had to settle for a draw. Down but not out.
8. Underearth Assassins (7) Lost 2-0 vs Darklands Resurrected
The Assassins fielded four desperate mercenaries to play this game and their inexperience showed after a horrendous time fighting the undead and rotten luck. Twice the Darkies were poised to strike and twice they failed at critical moments. The visibly stirred elves had little in the locler to turn the tide and their main aim of the season is to preserve what little of the first team remains. Not out of the race, but from this persective, the season is virtually over.
9. Mega Smashers (10) Drew 1-1 vs Golden Eternals of Chaqua
The boneheaded bunch turned to Morg for inspiration, and the giant did not disappoint. but the limelight went to snotling Nilbog Tea n Tea. Remember the name folks, as no doubt in the future there will be a question in your local tavern quiz: “Who was the first player to score for the Mega Smashers?”
10. OrcaLoca (9) Drew 1-1 vs Spikerøg Draaks
A creditable draw against play-off chasers should lift them away from the foot of the Rankings, but the Ogre draw was just that little bit more impressive. We saw remnance of former glory from the greenskins, however, to suggest that there is still an appetite for a good fight. Now that Bifulc, the star blitzer, is armed to the teeth, I expect more bloodshed coming the leagues way!

Mango's Valuable Player: The ghoul with Nerves of Steel, Corpsemuncher outshone his more illustrious counterpart with a matching winning display as goalscorer and goal-provider.
