Ecukhemrical Matters 1
Ptahsut Tabra
Spikerøg Draaks 0
Ecukhemrical Matters broke Northern hearts and armour with a ruthless display of power and foul play to seize the initiative in the race for a top 4 finish. A second half flourish of power-hitting allowed Throw-Ra, Ptahsut Tabra, the simplest task of running the ball in for the sole touchdown of the night.
The visitors to the crypt were perplexed, however, as star Yeti, Jötunn, vanished just before kick-off only to reappear the moment the whistle blew! But the Draaks began spritely as they reorganised their line after an early Khemri blitz. Debutante Berserker, Torben Hjorturson, took possession of the ball, which freed up the dauntless Olaf Thorson to wreck havoc - he did so with his first strike as he knocked out a Tomb Guardian.
The brave souls of the linemen kept the remaining 3 giants away from the action as a swift attack down the right flank materialised.Undeterred, the defenders jostled free to sweep across the field, with Cairo Practor being the active protagonist as he almost smashed the collar bone of Ulfwerner Fenris and then injured the key figure of Jötunn the Yeti.
Cairo continued his onslaught as he surfed Olaf Thorson. The Norse drive was collapsing, and Blitz-Ra Djahor halted the attack as he knocked out Skaliwag and tackled Torben will the ball just yards away from the endzone. The ball momentarily popped off-field and the defence safely secured the ball to the dismay of the Draaks to end the half 0-0.
Draaks problems surfaced in the second half, however, as they took a hammering from the methodical advance of the bandaged scrum. Despite the repeated heroics of Olaf Thorson to steady the defence, the Ecukhemrical's forward play wedged through the centre of the Northerner's defenders and resorted to putting the boot into the floored defenders.
The home crowd cheered raucously as both Ulfwerners were removed instantaneously, Djahor knocking Skaliway out for the second time whilst Fenris was injured on the floor by Howerd Sternum.
The strength drained from the defenders and with the ancient Misr-men closing in on the endzone, the Norse mustered the courage to attempt to break through the offensive lines. The ploy was extremely risky and ultimately doomed, as the Tomb Guardians invoked their archaic powers to crack open a gap for Tabra to run in the winner.
With just 5 men remaining, Spikerøg Draaks will draw a line under this match and start afresh as they prepare for their crunch match against QMLS legends the Hashutites. Ecukhemrical Matters will be hoping press hope their points gap over the chasing pack as they entertain the Metal Heads.
Mango's MVP: Ptahsut Djahor, though smaller than his counterparts, was instrumental in defence as the Blitz-Ra tackled the ball carrier and then won his battle in both halves against the Ulfwerners.
