With two seasons under the umbrella of Quiçama, the MiddleLands kicked off for the eleventh time with a joint record ten professional franchises battling it out for the QMLS title.
It turned out to be the greatest season the MiddleLands has seen in all its carnations. It kicked off in record breaking style as the reigning champion Bograts played out a sensational game against OrcaLoca, a six touchdown thriller, the highest scoring game the MiddleLands has seen in its entire history. It wouldn’t be the only record broken in an extraordinary campaign.
For the orcs it was a season to forget as luck deserted them for the entire regular season, which saw them finish from play contenders in the previous two seasons to rock bottom. It also witnessed the ogres finally score a touchdown at the sixth attempt only to disappear on a training run. Trolololo a team made up in record time played the remaining three fixtures with astonishing results and even won the inaugural play of the season award in their victory over the play off chasing Metal Heads.
While at the top of the division, the two red hot favourites, the skaven Bograts and chaos dwarf Hashutites went the entire season without losing a game. But the fight for the other two play off berths was truly remarkable. Dark horse lizards, hot and cold humans, the rejuvenated dark elves, the vastly improved undead, the disciplined norse and the cage of the khemri battled it out, a battle which incredibly went to the final round of the season. A final round that saw the dark elves flounder and the lizards of Chaqua claim a crucial win to take them through, while amazingly the Khemri Matters, Norse Draaks, Undead Darklands and the human Heads managed a tie for fourth which left the big wigs at the QMLS furiously working out who would go through and by their head to head meetings, it was EcuKhemrical Matters who snatched the final berth.
It was a breathless season with skavens smashing the all time record of consecutive wins when they completed 12 straight only to be foiled by their closest foes, Hashutites in the chaos cup derby in the final round of the season and it would be their foes who would reclaim the Superleague trophy by beating their bitter rivals in the final to become two time champions.
It would be the final game for the record breaking skavens, who’s place will be taken by the first necromantic team to play in the MiddleLands, Mersey Sythe and who will also be joined by a first Underworld franchise, Warpstone Union as the QMLS XII sees its largest amount of professional teams ever to compete, along with a new skaven menace Kouillus, a first ever nurgle team Lochaotic Rotten Posse and the return of Dwarverhampton Wanderers making it twelve franchises.
The teams will be split into two groups, the first time in a professional era since Superleague III to see who will be crowned QMLS CHAMPIONS.
Will Hashutites make it two in a row and three in four seasons? Or will a new name be added to the list?
All will be revealed as the Quiçama Middlelands Superleague XII kicks off.
May the blood flow in your favour.
