Both Conference Top Seeds march into Season XII's title decider after winning their thrilling encounters. QDC Winners, EcuKhemrical Matters, overcame weather, wizards and a wonder-rat to be the first representatives of the Khemri race to reach this stage!
MDC Winners, Hashutites toiled against their elven foes but managed to grip onto their title with an overtime win with an exceptional piece of elf-ball to nail the Underearth Assassins' season. In doing so, the reigning champions remain undefeated in 17 games and stretched this fine record over two full seasons!
EcuKhemrical Matters Conquer Elements To Send Skeletal Cohort To Final
Kouillus 1 EcuKhemrical Matters 2
Scalptuk Eugene Nix
Ptahsut Tabra
EcuKhemrical Matters conquered the elements of Fire and Water to qualify for their first QMLS Championship Final. It is the first time that any race outside the Chaos-aligned had achieved this feat.
The ancient ones had to come from behind to overcome the determined Skaven outfit, Kouillus, and the result was far from certain for the Khemri, even having possession for large periods of play, as Scalptuk the naturally gifted gutter runner had the ball in hands at the final whistle – but could not convert, to the relief of a thousand bones, as a teammate fluffed his lines!
It was a far cry from the start of the match as Kouillus stunned the crowd with a swift touchdown from Scalpuk. Confidence was high in the Skaven camp as they had an early lead, a wizard and the weather on their side.
The deluge would not subside and, no doubt, magnified the impact of the rat’s fireball to smash a tentatively set up EcuKhemrical cage at the restart, and the mighty strike stunned two and injured specialist ball carrier, Tabra. The scurrying rats took full advantage of their speed and almost ran in with a second.
But the Khemri, recomposed and suffering no ill effects from the pouring rain were nimble enough to reestablish ball control and trundled up the pitch with little difficulty to end the first half all square at half-time.
The second half began with the Kouillus frontline wiped out at the first set of blocks, leaving 6 rats to contend with a full cohort of skeletons. A sense of desperation overcame the rat pack and turn after turn, the defenders opted to cage dive.
The tactic came at a huge cost as the Matters repelled and fouled their way to the end zone. Aphe, the dirty fouler, was key to the boners’ success as he removed (and almost semi-retired) Scalptuk, Narkut the rat ogre and danger mouse, Nhidu.
All hope of stopping the drive was left in the hands of Iklut, who suffered a broken rib trying to sack Tabra. The stiff-arm from the rejuvenated Throw-Ra would make the task of a special one-turn attack more difficult. Nonetheless, the medics off-field worked their magic on Scalptuk to give a thin glimmer of hope that faded with a bad block.
The second half was carnage in favour of the Khemri outfit, the first race other than Chaos Dwarfs and Skaven to reach the QMLS Championship Game.
Mango's Valuable Player: Unfancied Ptahrenayt Aphe had the game of his life to send the team to ecstasy. His unorthodox use of his boot was critical to removing 3 key rats that made defending the ball much easier.
Hashutites Take Giant Strides In Title Defence With Thrilling Win Over Assassins
Hashutites 4 Underearth Assassins 3 (Overtime)
Ogedei Hethmair (2)
Butter the Great (2) Hethmair
Marnak Darkstabber
Hashutites made a sensational return to the Championship Game after a thrilling 7 touchdown battle against a valiant Dark Elf outfit, who were in large parts of the game seemed destined to break the Chaos Dwarf chokehold on the league.
The match began in favour of the reigning champions as they pummeled the pretenders to the throne with worrying speed. The Assassins lost witch Darkstride, one of the lauded 3 of super-agile elves, early to a tackle but could not envisage the carnage to follow soon after.
Celmair, the celebrated brute within the Delven ranks, was killed by Gharikk and was followed to the grave by rookie Blitzer Vogon. Indeed, we almost witnessed the first triple kill since Game 1 of Season VIII when Darklands, under human disguise were mauled by OrcaLoca.
Odium Shadowstrike would be saved from death on the sidelines, but his serious concussion will no doubt shorten his playing career. There was little resistance offered from Underearth as Ogedei ran in the first score of the day at the stroke of half-time.
The remaining 8 elves held their nerve in the second half and scored through Hethmair the Runner, who ran into space, afforded by the spread offense, and scored the equalizer late in the second.
A muddled attack from Hashutites was punished by the Assassins and they stole possession from the fumbled pass near midfield. With the elves swarming and securing the ball, the champions were facing defeat. Hethmair the Runner escaped the close attention to score the takeaway with mere seconds left on the clock.
But a brawl, instigated by the fuming chorfs, had players on both sides leave their senses and indulge in some old fashioned handbags. The fans from both sides invaded the pitch and the riot delayed the restart. Officials and elves were confused but the dust settled at the sight on Bultar honing in on the unlikeliest equalizer.
Only a riot would save Hashutites.
Naggaroth's finest could not undo Bultar’s work and the great Bull Centaur who would be a thorn in the throat throughout overtime. Deep in overtime, the Hethmair twins combined in a signature touchdown that looked to have won the game – again. But the restart was once more favourable to Hashutites, as the poorly kicked ball fell into Bultar’s immense possession. 3-3.
The Delves were now down to 5. With the Hethmair twins at the helm, the game was still winnable. The pitch, again, was stretch to open up gaps to exploit, but the twins could not combine to retake the lead.
This time, after overtime equal to a length of a regular-season half, Ogedei would shine in his moment with a glorious pass from near his endzone to reach Marnak, who stood alone in the centre circle. The Elves lacked the numbers to retaliate and the centaur would pierce Underearth’s heart with the winner.
Mango’s Valuable Player: The riotous spectators changed the matchday landscape entirely. Without it, Hashutites were defeated. But the fans were determined for entertainment and were duly rewarded for their indiscretion.
Final Draw:
