Crescent Moon 1
Ali
Dwarverhampton Wanderers 3
Paulie Dahling (3)
Paulie Dahling ran in a sensational hat-trick in the Wanderers’ 3-1 win over Crescent Moon, which keeps them within touching distance of the play-offs. This was billed as a must win game for the diminutive dwarfs, and their hunger for victory was there from kick-off.
Dwarverhampton dominated the sidelines with Zoltan the Troll-slayer surfing thralls at every opportunity, whilst the centre crushed the Vampire’s offensive line. The Blitz allowed the dwarfen defenders to encroach their opponent’s half, who were shepherded to one flank.
The pocket around Abu-Bakr, the ball carrier, collapsed and Zoltan dauntlessly forced a fumble, leaving Paulie to pick up the pieces and convert the first of his goals for a 1-0 lead.
On kick-off, the vampires of Crescent Moon weaved their magic to break through the centre and it seemed that the equaliser was in sight, but short on time and with the dwarfen defenders closing in, Uthman the vampire gambled and failed on a GFI to squander the slim hopes of an equaliser by half time.
The dwarf blockers were highly effective in whittling down the Crescent Moon’s deep bench to just 7 players, and the numerical superiority shone as the dwarfs marched relentlessly down the left flank with only Umar the vampire giving any resistance. Out-numbered and out-gunned, Crescent Moon were crest-fallen to see Paulie score his second early in the second half.
Given the ball, the vampires showed their slippery abilities as they nullified tackle zones with consummate ease for Ali the vampire to rush into the dwarfen half. Ali soon found himself surrounded by numerous thick-headed defenders, but showed his qualities with a wondrous uphill blitz and dodges to close the gap to 2-1.
The lack of thralls had a telling impact on kick-off, as the vampiric blood bank ran dry forcing Umar to feast on the horror-stricken fans, who was subsequently sent-off. Abu-Bakr followed suit, but on a stretcher as his skull was fractured by Yannick’s highlight-reel hit. Paulie had the whole field to run unopposed as the defenders could not muster the manpower to repel the final act.
Paulie grabbed the headlines by scoring the QMLS’s first ever hat-trick, in what proved to be the highest scoring game of the season. If the rest of the competition thought that Dwarverhampton Wanderers were out of this competition, then they were in for a rude awakening.
This was a statement of intent by the Dwarfs. The race is not over and the table doesn't lie.
