OrcaLoca 0
LTs Metal Heads 0
With the QMLS league imposed crowd control still in effect, the gathering that we're allowed in after some debate and relaxation of the ruling before the game, where subjected to a brutal and enthralling encounter as the classic orc v human match up gave us drama right till the end, in a game that couldn't separate the teams.
Unpronounceable troll Orecchiovomitevole set the tone from the outset.
With the Metal Heads receiving, OrcaLoca started with an imposing defensive line which from the off pressurised the Metal Heads offensive unit, with unpronounceable troll Orecchiovomitevole bringing roars of approval from the crowd with the games first casualty with a thunderous double handed swipe in the very first phase of the game and the ferocity of the orcs continued, gradually pushing back their opponents as Heads thrower Devin Townsend laterally moved from side to side to try and expose any hole left in the green wall facing him. Catcher Mastodon tried to stretch the orc defence with a run deep only to be tracked and surfed from the field of play by orc thrower Srifak. Zara the Slayer, making her return to the QMLS, got the crowd standing in ovation as with a flash of her blade downed her black Orc marker Graffi-Gole by the sidelines who was pronounced dead on the pitch, this in retaliation to yet another Head player being removed from the pitch on a stretcher by the hands of the unpronounceable troll Orecchiovomitevole, who was having a starring role in the opening clashes.
Zara the Slayer lives up to her name with the opening death.
OrcaLoca began to dominate the half way line battle and when another stretcher was required for the Metal Heads, much to the now baying crowds pleasure, their defensive line had broken and in a last ditch attempt, Heads blitzer Dark tranquillity broke forward into orc territory with Townsend spotting the advancement, but the move was thwarted as OrcaLoca captain Arapacap's pressure caused Townsend to fumble the ball in his attempt to get into a throwing position.
Devin Townsend takes a tumble trying to escape from Arapacap.
The signs looked ominous for the Metal Heads as lineman Gulliver collected the ball for OrcaLoca with the end zone in sight with only 1 Heads player standing, this after yet another stretcher was required.
But the Metal Heads are already proving to be a stubborn proposition and with the greenskins moving in to protect Gulliver, Townsend was on hand as he launched himself from a prone position and with a blow to the back of the unsuspecting Gulliver's head sent him crashing to the floor, this after blitzer Mgla had thwarted 2 orcs at the front of the cage, then as it looked like an inevitable scoring opportunity, Townsend sneakily left his trailing leg to thwart the advancement for another phase as time ebbed away in the first half leaving the game scoreless at the break with both teams leaving the field against a back drop of thunderous applause.
The second half started as the first half ended, with Gulliver collecting the deep restart and immediately raced forward to surround himself with a menacing 5 orc wall, which slowly and punishingly moved forward with the human defensive line trying to halt the green tide, but the decisive action brought the drive into life when a second death by black orc Arapcul opened up the Metal Heads defence and without a seconds thought, Gulliver aimed for the opening only to be denied by Mgla who forced the fumble with a superb blitz to deny OrcaLoca what looked like a certain TD, but the drive hadn't finished there as the ball bounced into the grateful hands of Srfak who with the Metal Heads end zone in sight attempted to break free of the melee only to be tackled by that man again...Mgla and the ball was free again and with the second half now in it's final stages, Metal Heads Townsend collected the ball and moved infield away from the OrcaLoca pack to see Mastodon and Zara high up the pitch, the crowd were on their feet as the remaining humans caged deep in their own half and under pressure as the orcs bared down on them, Townsend broke away from his protection to launch the ball towards Zara the Slayer on the half way line only to see Zara, under pressure from Mongee, fumble the huge launch...the gasp around the crowd was deafening.
Zara the Slayer awaits the Devin Townsend's huge launch.
But the thrills hadn't finished there, as in the final phase of the game, Mastodon stole the ball from under the noses of both Mongee and Arapacap and dodge clear of the scramble for the ball to run clear in the dying seconds and with hands aloof fell flat on his face INCHES away from the end zone to everyone witnessing disbelief, in what was a sensational ending, even by Nuffles standards, to a simply pulsating match up which left the crowd speechless.
So near yet so far for Mastodon, who lies prone in the end zone...without the ball.
It may of stayed goalless, but for drama this game had it ALL and was a superb advertisement for the QMLS.
Up next...OrcaLoca take on the elves of Celestial Comedy in what should be a game of brawn versus grace, while LTs Metal Heads pit their wits against Hashutites in an attempt to halt the juggernaut of the reigning champions.
Riska's Most Valuable Player ~ Mgla of the Metal Heads was instrumental in keeping OrcaLoca at bay and proved a one man defensive machine in a stunning display to thwart the orcs.
