OrcaLoca 0
LT's Metal Heads 1
Devin Townsend
Metal Heads won the Origins Cup for the first time in the franchise's history as they condemned their Orc opponents to their fourth consecutive defeat whilst stopping their own poor run of form. The victory puts the Metal Heads back into contention for a play-off berth.
The game did not come alive until the final moments of the first half as both sides content in trading blows at midfield, until Mgla the blitzer managed to knock out the mercenary line-orc to earn numerical supremacy.
Varag, the veteran, however, went one better with a blow that smashed the hand of Blind Guardian, who will now miss the human's next game. It was the opening that the offensive drive craved, as it allowed Bifulc the blitzer to run unmarked deep into LT's territory, but with so much to do, Scinn the orc thrower threw a scattered pass to end the drive.
Smelling an opportunity to counter, Devin swept the ball after Amorphis surfed the threatening Bifulc, and hail Mary'd into a swarm of players past the half-way line. No player within the vicinity took control to end the first half all-square and goalless.
The Metal Heads put their superior speed to good use in the second half as they tried to interchange points of attack from one flank to another, but the toughened greenskins proved too cunning to simply waltz around.
Mgla, once again, came to the aid of the offense with a series of mighty blows to open up an avenue to exploit down the right. The advance seemed impregnable, and Orca struggled to regain position. One last heave from Mgla produced the hole that Devin Townsend craved to rush in for a late touchdown.
Angered by conceding in the Origins Cup and facing defeat against their human foes, the orcs resorted to underhanded tactics and almost killed Lord Dying. The medics came to the rescue to ensure the fallen lineman was fit to resume.
It was a frustrating night for OrcaLoca,as their dogged performance warranted a point, but credit to the Metal Heads visitors who exploited their speed to full effect to re-enter the race for a top 4 finish.
LT's men will have to dust themselves down and prepare for a showdown with EcuKhemrical Matters, who currently occupy a top 4 spot. It's another big game that the humans mustn't lose, but after last season's heroics it's not beyond the men to qualify.
OrcaLoca's hopes of a first play-off shot have almost been extinguished. They find themselves pointless for the season, and the once-famed defence has deserted them. They will need to get their act together as they face off against fellow bottom of the table Mega Smashers.
Mango's MVP: Mgla produced 2 knockout hits to aid field position, but it was his harrassing lead blocking talents that ensured his quarterback the simplest task of scoring.
