Spikerøg Draaks 2
Olaf Thorson 2
LT's Metal Heads 1
Mastodon
Frenzied Yeti, Jötunn, had a game to remember as he was instrumental in leading the Northerners to their maiden win in the QMLS at the expense of the beleaguered Metal Heads. The Draaks leapfrog their opponents and sit 2 points off the top 4.
It was a violent spectacle at the famed Farmer Maggot's Ground and the bloodshed began with the thrust of Jötunn razor claws, first breaking The Fire Constant's ribs then surfing a lineman in quick succession. The Metal Heads had little by way of weapons to cope with the Yeti, who was not grounded the entire game!
The speed, however, of the Humies did surprise the offensive drive of the Norse, and there were repeated attempts at hitting the ball carrier, Olaf Thorson. The great runner, however, was a match for every blitz as he stiff armed his way and watched in glee, as blitzers fell when over-committing, to the opening score late in the first half.
Undeterred, last-season's play-offveterans sensed opportunity as worked a rapid response early in the first half by fashioning a gap in the Draaks defence on the right flank. Amorphous, the blitzer, opened the key gap to allow Mastodon a free ticket to the endzone and level the scores.
With Olaf Thorson again in possession of the ball, the Draaks made steady headway with the brutal Yeti leading the charge. The great beast bookended a violent passage with both sides fast losing players, first Jötunn surfed Palms and ended by smashing the hand of thrower, Isis, who had a fine game until then.
Spikerøg were in the ascendency and could taste the touchline, Dark Tranquility proved a formidible foe as he crushed the Werewolf, Fenris, on the way to sacking the ball carrier. The last-minute heroics were ini vain, however, as Olaf's boys cleared a path for the runner to score the winning touchdown late in the game.
Spikerøg Draaks got their season back on track and have the chance to break into the top 4 as they face off against fellow new franchise EcuKhemrical Matters. LT's Metal Heads will want to forget this game in a hurry as they square up against OrcaLoca in the Origins Cup, it's a game of high stakes as defeat will severely dent title aspirations this early in the season.
Mango's MVP: Jötunn the Yeti was a powerhouse that shredded through the defensive lines in both half. It was one of the most impressive individual performances of the season thus far! Two casualties, 1 surf and 1 knock out blow does not do justice to his performance. Incredible!
