The incredible form of last season's top two sides continued with hard-fought victories over stubborn opponents. Hashutites were victors in the Clash of Titans versus OrcaLoca, whilst Bognor spirited away against the plucky Underearth Assassins.
OrcaLoca 0
Hashutites 1
Bultar the Great
Hashutites once again showed their championship credentials with their 8th straight win and shut out in a row - surpassing an ancient record set in the dark days of the Auld MLS. They relied on a heavy dose of good fortune to secure the TD late in the first half, but the chaos dwarfs did enough on defence to prevent the greenskin hosts from breaking through.
Fharlak once more was the difference in midfield as his clawed hand pierced through the tough orc armour, killing veteran blitzer Gulliver and injuring Black Orc, Gabber Scassafacc. It wasn't all plain sailing for the killer dwarf as he succumbed to injury at the hands of débutante thrower, Srifac (no relation to fellow orc thrower... Srifac).
Favourable conditions allowed Hejami the hobgoblin to secure the ball, but his tendency to play hot potato did not go unnoticed as he fumbled a key pass early in the game. The coaching staff's weariness may prove too much as they scour the plains of Quiçama for that elusive strong armed hobbo from the last match against Crescent Moon.
It took a moment of madness from dwarf guard, Farkan Tinthroat to pick up the loose ball from under the nose of the Troll and hand-off to Bultar to sprint away for the decisive touchdown.
The troll with the unpronounceable name gain revenge from that cheeky play, by swinging his mighty rock-like arms to injure the guard. But the inches to the endzone were well marshalled as the Hashutites resumed their charge to the top with a stalwart defensive display.
Mango's Valuable Player: Fharlak Dyingfeet's deadly control of midfield created the space for Hashutites to exploit.
Bognor Bograts 2
Head-Lyce Creep, Snablutch Slobber
Underearth Assassins 0
From a battle of brawn to a game of wits, Bognor came on top in a gruelling encounter with the plucky outfit of Underearth. The scoreline suggests that the rodent ran out clear winners, but the game swung in favour due to the bravado of wrestling Gutter Runner, Gruff-Rhiyz Jones, who sacked the ball carrier twice.
The rats secured the lead midway through the first half, with a slalom through the centre of the pitch and settled for an enduring defensive pounding from their dark elven opponents. With little armour on display, there was a lack of blood as the exchanges neither favoured either side, though the débutante Witch, Gaenraearth, injured the Kreelut the kicker who was surprisingly spared by the use of the paramedics.
The offensive drive pushed hard down the left flank, but was up against the resistant pack of Bograts. The time to gamble came near the end of the half, will a switch the right flank but it opened a slither for Jones to slip through and bring down the ball. The big hand came into effect with a brilliant steal but the Assassins scrambled to ensure that they only went down 1-0 at half time.
There was a sense of deja vu in the second half, as the Dark Elves were invited to explore the left flank. Bognor retaliated with a shift to secure the flank, but the witch once more punched through to crack open a hole in the defence. Once more the the Elves tried to rush through, only to see the ball get coughed up by a poor dumped-pass from Hethmair into the hands of a Gutter Runner, who took immense pleasure to run and gun to play ball with a team-mate.
It was insult to injury, as the Bograts ran in the killer second to win their 5th straight tie of the campaign. A mouthwatering Chaos encounter lay in wait for Week 6 as the Skaven rats face off against fellow 100%ers the Hashutites.
Underearth Assassins will wait with baited breath to see if their grip on 4th has been loosened as they wait on results elsewhere.
Mango's Valuable Player: Gruff-Rhiyz Jones, the wrestling strip-baller, was at the right place at the right time to scupper any hopes of an Elven score. His defensive work laid the foundation to this impressive shut-out. He also assisted for the first touchdown, with an unselfish hand-off to Head-Lhyce Creep, whilst his steal for the second allowed Snablutch to rush in for the second.
