EcuKhemrical Matters 1
Ptahsut Djaher
Golden Eternals of Chaqua 2
Gortsa, Oatluax du Lac
The Golden Eternals of Chaqua survived a brutal pounding from league debutants Ecukhemrical Matters to start the new campaign in flourishing fashion. Going into the match, the lizardmen were seen as darkhorses for the title and they lived up to their billing with an explosive flair from the nimble corp of skinks.
Their cause was further enhanced as the heavens opened and made blood bowl life difficult for the maladroit marauders of Misr. Receiving in the rain proved cumbersome, even with superstar Nekbrekerekh, bolstering the bony undead, as the skinks proved a nuisance throughout the first half.
Xholtenqtsa, the saurus, cracked through the slightest of openings to force fumble the ball from the grasp of ball carrier Ptahsut Tobra and allow his diminuitive teammate Gortsa, to stuntily slip past two tackles, whisk the ball away and score the first TD of the season.
EcuKhemrical knew that the weather conditions and the frightning speed of their opponents were not condusive to a fast reply, so it came as no surprise to see Tobra slosh in desperation fishing for the ball in the mud.
Indeed, things looked worse when Tenqotl killed the skeleton, Bithtep, to maintain numerical pressure. But the Khemri changed tack and focussed less on the ball and more on the brawl.
It took a fortuitous slip in the endzone from pesky skink, Oatluax du Lac, to prevent the Khemri from going in at half-time two down, and the undead were emboldened by their coaches messages at half time.
The bandaged skeletons changed tack in the second half and began to click. No saurus nor skink were safe from the power-hitting Tomb Guardians and the Blitz-Ras, but the defenders had not the tools to deny a Chaquan second, seeing Oatluax scoring at his leisure on his second attempt.
With little time left, the Khemri set up full frontal, only to be wrong-footed by a blitz. Two skinks dodged through the inadequate screen into the backfield and instantaneously added pressure on the ball. By sheer will, the offensive drive was recovered by the removal of all skinks form the field to leave a field wide open for a touchdown.
Ecukhemrical's problem, however, was that they were not in possession of the ball that sat in their endzone and the only deep threat available was the mighty blowing tackler, Ptahsut Djahor. Under such circumstances, in the rain, the likelihood of a TD remained remote, but the two Ptahsuts combined to wow the crowd with a drive that moved the ball as fast as skaven!
It took many go-for-its, and some awkward looking ball handling stunts, but the Khemri converted the drive into a sensational consolation TD. The chances of success were calculated to be as low as 2.5% (or 7.9% with a reroll) to end this entralling opening on a stupendous high!
Ecukhemrical Matters may have tasted defeat on their QMLS debut, but they entertained the crowd and gave the lizardmen a pounding that they will not forget in a hurry. The Chaquans will be delighted to secure a confident win under against an unknown quantity. They are showing signs of fulfilling their potential.
Can the Golden Eternals break the duopoly of Hashutites and Bognor Bograts? I believe that they can go all the way to be crowned champions of Season XI.
Mango's Valuable Player: Oatluax du Lac was an unstoppable force of nature who stole the ball many times, scoring once and almost scoring another. His presence put fear into the empty hearts of his opponents.
