OrcaLoca 0
Golden Eternals of Chaqua 3
Otzotl, Oatlgorit-tlu, Oatluax du Lac
Golden Eternals of Chaqua ended their season in fine fashion with a resounding win over the depleted OrcaLoca. The victory sets a benchmark for the ever improving Lizardmen for next season as they build for the future.
The record-equalling heavy defeat for OrcaLoca surprised all concerned, leaving hopes for the play-offs consigned to the drawing board. The orcs began without 3 experienced blitzers due to the mauling from the Ogres from the previous game, but they were met with a side determined to cause an upset!
A win would have guarateed a spot, and the Orcs looked in good shape as they tussled their way past the half way line, only for the swift sauruses to squeeze into the grill of ball carrier Acuoll. The noose tighened further as the usually reliable Gobber Scassafacc met his match and hi tthe astrogranite. Tza-Oatl took his opportunity to sack Acuoll and watched in glee with teammate Otzotl catching the rebound and run away for the first score.
The mercenary lineorcs recruited failed to return for the restart, preferring the cosier settings of the side-line. The prospect of getting punched by sauruses in the searing heat did not seem a tempting call for more coin. Indeed, OrcaLoca lined up 2 players short and struggled to cover the whole pitch. With time running out before half time, thrower Acuoll tossed a poor ball that scattered inside his own half.
The wily skink, Oatluax du Lac, then turned in a vintage performance as he dodged five ferocious tackles to pick up a heavily guarded loose ball and then handed off to Oatlgorit-tlu who ran in the killer second TD at the stroke of half-time. When asked about his feat, Oatluax said (on hearing shouts of Don't do it!!! from the staff), "Never tell me the odds. I dreamed of the impossible and made it possible."
The lineorcs had little stomach for the fight and 2 failed to return on the pitch again - to the disgust of the OrcaLoca coach, who had the unenviable task of figuring out how to stop the super agile Oatluax and his slimy skinks.
An opportunity arose from the kick off as Braduk Arapacap crashed through the centre to remove Otl du Lac, and lead the rushing Gustaldino and Gugfak into the backfield. Oatluax kept his cool and survived the numerous punches from the keen orc eyes. Only when Gorit-tlu broke the ribs of Gugfak did Oatluax see the chance to scarper down the empty left flank.
There was little the defenders could do as they saw the lizards forge an impregnable cage near the endzone. Orca were relying on divine intervention and - for a moment - it came in the shape of a banana skin on the pitch. Oatluax slipped when on the verge of scoring and dropped the ball!
Both orc throwers tried to work their way through to the ball, but both were repelled and removed by the colossal figure of Oatlgor de l'Aube who knocked both orcs out to leave Oatluax with the simplest TD of his career.
The season ended for both sides in ways that contrasted with their beginnings. Golden Eternals were showing erratic form only to end with a flurry of brillilant plays; whilst OrcaLoca, who conceded just 2 TDs in 8 matches and were hot favourites for a play-off spot were run ragged in this 3-0 defeat and so crash out due to a weaker goal difference.
Next season will be very interesting as we see how both sides develop.
Mango's Valuable Player: Oatluax du Lac's incredible playmaking skills were decisive tonight. He set up the second TD after a fabulous jinking run, and scored another at the end when it looked likely that the Orcs were getting back into the game.
