Underearth Assassins 0
Golden Eternals of Chaqua 2
Oatluax du Lac, Myndiwaq
Golden Eternals of Chaqua turned in a superb performance to earn a worthy win over their Dark Elf opponents. The result all but destroyed both teams' thin hopes of a play-off spot, as results elsewhere did not go in their favour.
The bright sunshine clearly warmed up the scales as the lizardmen progressed with consummate ease as they shifted their rumbling cage from flank to flank, protecting the ball carrier Oatluax du Lac, who scored his first TD since game 1.
There were moments of discomfort for the blue skins, as a journeyman skink died under the punching prowess of the elven blitzers, but there was enough in the tank for Oatluax to run in the opener.
From the kick-off, the lizards used their superior speed to great effect and almost capitalised on an elven blitz that went wrong! With the ball carrier, at the lizard's mercy, coughing the ball yards from the end-zone. It was a tempting target for the little blue skinks, but time denied a quick second.
Knowing that only victory could keep the Underearth's hopes of a post-season run alive, they pressed aggressively seeking an early touchdown in the second half, however, Celmair fluffed his lines as he a game to forget. His wayward pass dropped conveniently within the grasp of 3 lizards, who contrived to lose sight of a nimble elf. An equaliser was on the cards, but a series of clever blocks released Otzotl the saurus for the game-defining blitz.
The big hit stopped the offensive drive, and it carved an opening for the journey-skink, Myndiwaq, to pick up the ball and whisk away for the killer second. The steal was the knife in the dark elves' back, as they had no response to the defensive takeaway.
The game ended 2-0 to the Chaquans and look in prime shape to build on strong foundations for next season. The Assassins will be aggrieved to lose such a massive game, but they too will be looking toward the future as they seek further glory in the Quiçama Middlelands Superleague.
Mango's Valuable Player: Otzotl's last-ditch tackle guaranteed the morale boosting win. It was, however, a collective masterclass in defence, as they succeeded in stealing the ball on both Elven drives.
