Darklands Resurrection 1
Helmut the Orator
Spikerøg Draaks 1
Eric Ragnarson
Spikerøg Draaks began life in the QMLS with a tough encounter against league veterans the Darklands. The Norse showed tenacity and the will to fight back even when outnumbered by their undead opponents.
The drunken Vikings had to contend with some heavy hitters and soon found themselves low in manpower as the Mummies expertly ground and pound to enable the freak of nature, Marrowravager, to sneak up the gut.
The power game, however, allowed the Ulfwerener, Fenris, to sneak bullrush from the edge to sack Marrowravager and catch the fumbled ball. Unfortunate for him, he was in harms way as Dagg crushed the interceptor.
The ball became a difficult object to take control with both sides temporarily succeding in possession only to be countered. Olaf Thorson was the key player for Spikerøg as he removed the agile threat of Marrowravager with a clean uppercut, only to see the ball bobble into the hands of Helmut the Wight.
The Norse looked in dire straits when Dagg injured Olaf Thorson, but fine medical intervention ensured the Runner could rejoin at the next kick-off. He did not have to wait long as he witnessed Helmut stiff arm a desperate tackle from Erik Regnarson to break the deadlock near the end of the half.
Spikerøg Draaks began kick-off with just 8 players and turned thri full attention to Olaf for inspiration. The mighty blowing Runner single-handedly levelled the player numbers by whittling undead foes. But being short on players and the wrong-footed undead trundling back into striking distance, Eric Regnarson took possession of the ball to equalise.
From the restart, Darklands Resurrected pressed for the winner with Helmut on carrying duties. The yards were being eaten up but time was against them. Helmut left the sanctuary of the Mummies and suffered exposure to Olaf Thorson to leave the field on a stretcher.
All that remained was a shot at glory from Marrowravager but he too succumbed to Olaf's stellar QMLS debut. Olaf's third sack ensured that this brutal contest ended all-square.
Darklands continue to progress and show that they are not the pushovers, continuing the fine-form of last season, suffering defeat once in their last 5 games. Spikerøg Draaks will take comfort in their ability to go toe to toe with one of the league's killer teams. The coach will feel that they will be amongst the play-off contenders.
Mango's Valuable Player: Olaf Thorson was a thorn throughout the match with his mighty blowing antics. He also sacked the ball 3 times in a striking display. Instrumental in keeping the Norse in contention.
