Celestial Comedians 2
Horthion Nallelwa, Aearion Nallron
Underearth Assassins 1
Hethmair
Celestial Comedy capitalised on some critical ball handling errors from their opponents to stretch their fantastic start to QMLS life with their sixth straight victory. The win almost guarantees a play-off spot and puts them head to head with the Bograts for the Divisional Title.
The first score from the Comedians came from a cute catcher decoy that pulled the Underearth Assassins defenders to one flank and allowed respite for the line elves to stroll through midfield in safety. A failed blitz from the witch elf was ruthlessly punished with a swift hand-off to Horthion Nallelwa, who rushed in the first of the night.
Undeterred, the Dark Elves were in a good position to ground the necessary yards for an equaliser, but rookie errors from the offensive line elves allowed Turin Noroos to side step into the range of the ball carrying runner, Hethmair.
Under pressure, the runner dump passed to the safe clutches of Ferrell but even he was soon caught the close attentions of Turin. Ferrell had the simplest task to jink away from his pursuer but succumbed to his sudden death on the hardened astrogranite.
The gasps of horror in the stadium were palpable as the paramedics failed to resuscitate the fallen line elf, and the raw emotion stuttered the offensive drive and all hopes of an equaliser by half-time evaporated.
Fate conspired to repeat the Underearth Assassin's misfortune with the ball. Turin Noroos, the Elf blitzer waltzed through the blows and on his way to replicate his trick first half trick and marked the ball carrier Hethmair. The runner subsequently failed his critical dodge and his team helplessly watched Aearion Nallron pick up the loose ball to score the killer take-away.
With time slipping away, the Celestial Comedy were content in defending their lead and had enough in the tank to see off the Assassin's late rally, albeit conceding a last minute TD from Hethmair.
The win takes the Elves to the top, level with Bognor Bograts, and require just 1 point to confirm a play-off berth. Fourth spot is now wide open and it's up for grabs. The Assassins will need to recover from this setback as they face the lively Metal Heads next.
Mango's Valuable Player: Turin Noroos was the key defender in stopping the Underearth challenge. His tackle took the life of Ferrell and also forced the fumble that set up Aearion to score the ultimate winner.
