Reigning champion Bognor Bograts made it 2 wins on the bounce but had to grind out the victory over a resilient Draaks side who on this evidence proved to be worthy contenders for a play off spot, but whom were ultimately undone by the rodents star qualities.

Before the start of the contest, eyebrows were raised when the first star player in the Quicama era, runner Snablutch Slobber, was left on the bench as the Bograts continued their defence against the crazed northern Draaks.

It turned out a long half for Slobber as he watched on as the Draaks along with yhetee Jotunn, who was a constant threat throughout, proved worthy opponents as their defensive shape gave major headaches for the rodents offence.

The beginning of the contest was a titanic battle as rat ogre Breaknut and Jotunn traded blow after blow with neither colossal budging as the Draaks defensive shape remained intact with the rats moving the ball from side to side to try and find an opening.

The opening exchanges were dominated by the two titans battling for supremacy.

The stern defence held back the probing rodents and it took until the final phases of the half when the champions turned the screw. Pekorinho finally removed werewolf Skaliwag with his trade mark piling on manoeuvre as Breaknut took care of the Draaks other werewolf Fenris with a frenzied attack, finally breaking the resilient first line of the Draak's defence.

The hardy Norse were not in the mood to be bullied and in retaliation saw a huge overhand right, by the mighty runner Olaf Thornson, that connected flush with the snout of Breaknut, which saw the beast dragged off the field unconscious, a KO he wouldn’t recover from. The Draaks once again got numbers over to shut the door only for a moment of star quality from Gruff Rhyz-Jones who waltzed through the defensive line to score on the stroke of half time.

It was tough on the Norse after a valiant display and immediately pushed forward early in the second half as the narrow defensive setup of the rats allowed the Draaks offence to push down the right flank. Ball carrier Barkviofair was admirably shielded by a wall of team mates and repelled much of what Bognor could muster.

Jones' brilliance captured as he runs in for the opening touchdown.

As the cage ground into the Bograts half the rats sprung to life and shut the door by removing the cages front line, but it was the Draaks with perfect precision who replied with a great riposte of their own to open the defensive wall allowing Barkviofair to break through with the end zone in sight.

The frightening pace of the rats put an end to the run for the endzone as runners Slobber and Jones combined to floor Barkviofair, only to see the ball pop up into Erik Ragnarson’s arms. But with the rats surrounding the charge it caused the fumble as Ragnarson lost the ball looking for space and with the ball prone big handed mutant runner Head Lhyce-Creep danced his way through and collect the ball to break away with the entire pitch in front of him for a superb break away goal to end the contest.

Up next...the Bograts defence of the title sees them take on the ever improving Darklands Resurrected while the Draaks square off against their southern cousins the Metal Heads.

Riska's MVP...the nimble paws of Gruff Rhyz-Jones proved that he truly is a STAR of the QMLS.
