Bognor Bograts 4
Snablutch Slobber, Head Lyhce Creep, Gruff-Rhyz Jones, Berndt Haas
OrcaLoca 2
Scinn' Acoul, Rutto Jr
The opening round of QMLS XI ended in a record breaking 4-2 triumph as reigning champion Bograts overcame old rivals OrcaLoca in an all time classic encounter.
It’s the first time in MiddleLands history that six touchdowns have been scored in a single game, it also saw an incredible 11 KOs and 4 casualties as the two teams slugged it out in a true blood bowl epic.
The game from the off was wide open, as from the kick off the greenskins blitzed the rats offensive line with the ball perfectly landing in the Bograts end zone, only for a lighting counter as the famed gutter runners combined. Head Lyhce-Creep gathered the ball from under the noses of the rampaging bruisers who'd rushed forward, to pass back to Chiqui Arsol who then charged forward to hand off to Snablutch Slobber who then raced away unopposed only to trip over his dumbbell and landed fangs first into the astrogranite.
It was relief for the orcs who had thrower Scinn' Acoul close enough to gather only for himself to taste the floor when he stumbled gathering the ball, the rodents didn't need a second opportunity as Slobber dusted himself off and with no pressure gathered to walk in for the opening touchdown.
OrcaLoca were soon level, as Acoul collected the touch back from kick off and trundled down the pitch to level the score in true orc fashion, with a green impregnable wall surrounding him.
The drama of the first half hadn't finished there as the orcs yet again blitzed from kick-off to wrong foot a loaded rodent offensive line set up for a quick score attempt only for Gabber Scassaface to drop the attempted catch to leave the green menace wide open at the back, The space was too much of a temptation for any vermin and gutter runner Creep disappeared into the distance to take the Bograts in at half time 2-1 up.
Orc thrower Acoul received the restart and his offensive line immediately admitted pressure on the scrimmage forcing the Bograts back. But stormvermin, Troy Pekorinho, turned the brawling game on it's head as he used his favoured piling on tactic to remove another orc, to follow up on amiming the rats No.1 foe in thrower Srifak (who'll you remember threw the elf like pass to ruin the rodents undefeated streak last season) with a career threatening smashed collar bone, the scurrying rats flew forward in search for more glory.
Acoul desperately launched the ball towards Varag Arapcul to escape the rat's notice, but the latter's failed catch gave possession away and Pekorinho came to ensure that that was Varag's last contribution of the match. The Bograts sensed opportunity with Gruff-Rhyz Jones lobbing the ball to Arsol who found acres of space to score the pivotal third touchdown.
Rutto Jr shortly brought the greenskins within a touchdown.
It looked grim for the jaded greenskins as they lined up with only 6 players fit. Under the bearing sunshine, Arcoul could only stand and watch as his 5 orc cover was overrun. In another desperate attempt to avoid the sack, he launched the ball towards an unmarked Rutto Jr, who had been left behind on the half way line.
Bognor's aggressive arrogance was punished asRutto Jr collected with a sublime catch and, with the entire half of the pitch at his disposal, ran in to bring the orcs within 1 touchdown and hopes of a miracle comeback resurfaced. OrcaLoca'srevival was cut short as a budding Bograts supporter flattened the Orc goal scorer, Rutto Jr, with quite a sensational delivered rock!
No doubt the Bograt's coach will be eager to recruit the plucky spectator, but the strong armed fan, had disappeared into the crowd without an OrcaLoca fan being able to locate the long tailed filth. The orcs had no alternative but to surrender the entire right flank.
Pekorinho ensured more punishment, however, with yet another telling blow, whilst rookie vermin Berndt Haas collected the punt to run unopposed for the record breaking SIXTH touchdown of the game to end the orcs hopes.
No, the Orcs hadn't faced the Ogres!!?
This was just simply an astonishing game of blood bowl and a match that will long live in the memory. The reigning champion Bograts will be grateful to get their defence of their title up and running in such a fashion in a game that could have easily have swung either way, but now face off next against the unknown quantity that is the norse team Spikerøg Daaks,
OrcaLoca, meanwhile, should take heart in the fact that it was the narrowest of margins at points in the game that could have made such a difference and will want to get their own season moving forward but face a tough challenge in a first meeting against EcuKhemrical Matters.
Riska's MVP: Troy Pekorinho, the Bograts have found a new star. His contribution of 3 casualties and 2 KOs made a mockery of the tough skinned orcs as he single handedly broke their resistance to give his team mates the freedom of the park to exploit.
