Bognor Bograts 3
Chiqui Arsol, Snablutch Slobber, Gruff Rhiyz-Jones
Mega Smashers 0
Star gutter runner, Gruff Rhiyz-Jones, inspired the reigning champion Bograts to victory against the Mega Smashers, as the ogres were undone by the speed and skill of their rodent opponents.
With the reigning champions electing to receive, they set out in a very attacking formation to the surprise of all, as the Smashers lined up with the one and only Morg N Thorg in their ranks for his QMLS debut. Mega Smashers were banking on the Blood Bowl legend could bring some experience into the ogres, but whatever was said by the touchline didn’t go down to well, as the Smashers saw ogre Martha struck by a huge rock hurled from the crowd.
It was an opportunity the scurrying rodents couldn’t resist, as ball carrier Chiqui Arsol raced forward only to see the mighty Morg shut the door as the ogres shifted their defence. But with quick thinking and even quicker paws, the Bograts offence shifted flanks as the pace of their gutter runners raced down the opposite flank creating a fur wall allowing Arsol to race down the touchline as the Smashers tried again to close the door, but an incisive blitz opened the way for Arsol to run in for the opening touchdown after eating the clock down.
Star Snablutch Slobber snatches the ball from the under the nose of the Mighty Morg for the crucial second on the stroke of half time.
The game was effectively over when the ball wasn’t dealt with from the restart giving the blitzing Bograts an opportunity they very rarely miss, as star runner Snablutch Slobber whisked the ball from under the nose of Morg N Thorg, who'd failed the pick up, to score a quick fire touchdown, doubling the rodents lead on the stroke of half time.
The second half began with the legendary Morg collecting the kick off to rapturous applause from the crowd, only to see Jones sneak up behind him to strip the ball away from his giant grasp and with the ball bouncing around in the central melee of players it landed at the feet of rookie rat Priti Manek, who showed great composure and skill most experienced of players would have been proud of, when in the face of the behemoths surrounding him, he skipped past a tackle to break clear down the flank with his short pass finding Head Lhyce Creep, who had been left in acres of space to run in for the killer third.
Gruff Rhiyz-Jones pick pockets Morg N Thorg setting up the killer third in the process.
The game was now truly over for the Smashers, who's wondering focus now was on player removal with Priti Manek and Chiqui Arsol both being carried off after thunderous blows, but to the relief of the Bograts, neither player required assistance, which wouldn't have come as the medics were frantically busy patching up storm vermin Troy Pekorinho who'd been targeted by Gurunk the Slaughterer.
Though the game did end with a show stopper moment, as with nothing to play for in the dying seconds and after yet again Jones had rifled the pocket of Morg N Thorg, the snot Nilbog Tea ‘n’ Tea found himself with the ball and surrounded by his colossal team mates. But the little fella didn’t read his bonehead compatriots, so when they pushed forward so the wee snot pushed backwards towards his own line to finish the game with smiles all round.
The score line was harsh on the Smashers whom with Morg in the side looked a different proposition, but ultimately the skill and pace of the vermin proved too much.
Up next…the Bognor Bogarts will be happy to get through the game with no serious injuries, even though there was gasps when Gurunk the Slaughterer bludgeoned Pekorinho and now look to go 5-0-0 when they face off against the dark elf Underearth Assassins, while the Mega Smashers will go again with the aim of scoring what is becoming that elusive first touchdown, when they face the greenskins of OrcaLoca in a basement battle.
Riska's MVP: Star gutter-runner Gruff Rhiyz-Jones outshone the legend that is Morg N Thorg as he not once but twice robbed the super star of possession and in turn, set up the Bograts to a snatch and grab victory.
