Mango’s Power Rankings XIV Week 5

Seen as a blessing in the creation of Golems and other abhorrent fleshies, lightning struck twice for Mersey Scythe (Necromantics). But this lightning wasn't what anyone in the QMLS expected; it would alter the entire league's meta as both - BOTH - killer werewolves fell to their demise to the hopeful boots of the Khemrian skeleton horde. It was the Necromantics first defeat in 9 games and sets the team's development back to the Dark Age of league creation.

The Curse of Zandri (Khemri) were adorned by all around the league and hailed as heroes. Elves, Dwarfs, Humans, Rats, Ogres and the agents of Chaos rejoiced! In doing the deed, the Zandri took a giant step in the playoff race and will feel confident going forward into the campaign.

Haradrim Raiders (Chaos) seized control of the MDC after surviving a plethora of off-field connection issues and on-field clawed Nurgle fiends to jump ahead in the playoff race. Lochaotic Rotten Posse (Nurgle) now find themselves in a real mid-table scrap and will be keeping an eye on the chasing pack.

The fight to stave off relegation heated up too with Cornes Flakes (Chaos) and Pallbearers' Guests (Undead) both chalk up vital wins to drag their opponents into the dogfight to survive; Property Brothers (Chaos Dwarfs) and Golden Eternals of Chaqua (Lizardmen) were their respective victims.

1. Haradrim Raiders (3▲2) (Chaos, 4-0-1)

Won 2-1 vs Loschaotic Rotten Posse (Nurgle, 2-1-2)

Haradrim survived a Nurgle onslaught to claim bragging rights in the Chaos Cup Derby but had to fight tooth and nail against a team brimming with murderous weapons. It took an ingenious set of weaving plays at the end of the game to secure a hard-fought win, which puts them in control of their playoff destiny. It’s a far cry from Week 1 that saw the Raiders bottom of the Power Rankings pile!

Team News: Joseph Yak Ubu (fractured arm) returns.

Next up: The Warpstone-Union (Underworld, 1-2-2)

2. Mersey Scythe (1▼1) (Necromantics, 4-0-1)

Lost 0-1 vs Curse of Zandri (Khemri 2-2-1)

Seismic events shattered the Necromantic illusion of invincibility as both superstar werewolves, Steven Gerrard and Tim Cahill, were killed early in the first half against the Khemrians. The sudden turn of events now have the pre-season favourites plummeting in the eyes of the favoured as Mersey Scythe look to rebuild some semblance of an attack squad.

Team News: Graeme Souness (smashed hand) returns. Kenny Dalglish (werewolf) makes his debut.

Next up: Underearth Assassins (Dark Elves, 1-4-0)

3. Old School Baby (5▲2) (Khemri, 3-1-1)

vs Prancing Pictises (Pro Elves, 3-1-1)

The OSB edged an enthralling encounter with title hopefuls, Prancing Pictsies, and bounced themselves back into contention. There was an element of good fortune for the Khemri who recovered from 3 players down in the first half to sweep away the harassing elves. The cause wasn’t helped by an overly officious ref who declined not once but twice the offer of a bribe! But as the match progressed to it’s conclusion it was clear that the OSB had enough in the tank to secure an important win.

Team News: Full squad

Next up: Arktech Monkeys (Norse, 2-1-2)

4. Prancing Pictsies (2▼2) (Pro Elves, 3-1-1)

Lost 1-2 vs Old School Baby (Khemri, 3-1-1)

Pictsies lost for the first time this season and let slip their grip on the MDC. In fairness, the loss was a rough result as they excelled at pressurising their cumbersome foes. Indeed, the PP managed to force two fumbles, which under most circumstances would end a Khemrian drive, but on both occasions, the recovery did not favour the brave. In retaliation, the elves were unceremoniously punched in the face and were 1 elf away from being pitch cleared.

Team News: Full squad.

Next up: Arktech Monkeys (Norse, 2-1-2)

5. Kouillus (9▲4) (Skaven, 2-2-1)

Won 5-2 vs LT’s Metal Heads (Humans, 2-1-2)

Kouillus revitalised their campaign with a barnstorming win over their playoff rivals and ensured the rest of the QMLS remember that the Skaven outfit are not out for the count. Indeed, it was the powerful punching display from Kouillus that had the Lilywhites smelling salts on the sidelines to produce the ocean of space for the rat pack to attack.

Team News: Full squad

Next up: The Wokens (Vampires 1-1-0)

6. Curse of Zandri (10▲4) (Khemri 2-2-1)

Won 1-0 vs Mersey Scythe (Necromantics, 4-0-1)

The Zandrians produced the greatest shock in recent QMLS memory with a well-earned narrow win against the QDC runaway leaders. It was a sensational start with the fouling game as they managed what none before have ever done – outright kill BOTH superstar werewolves. With the pups out of the picture early in the first half, there would only be one winner in the foot race to the ball – the horde of skeletons!

Team News: Amon Deeb (fractured arm) misses out)

Next up: Cornes Flakes (Chaos, 1-0-4)

7. Lochaotic Rotten Posse (4▼3) (Nurgle, 2-1-2)

Lost 1-2 vs Haradrim Raiders (Chaos, 4-0-1)

LRP showed their violent streak in a superb Chaos Cup Derby, but slipped to a narrow defeat which leaves them vulnerable in the playoff race. Having stunned the Raiders, the LRP mounted an attack on the flank to score an earlier than expected equaliser, nonetheless few expected the late-game TD to sink the Nurglers.

Team News: Mario Göatze joins the LRP after falling to his death. Full squad.

Next up: Golden Eternals of Chaqua (Lizardmen, 1-0-3)

8. Arktech Monkeys (7▼1) (Norse, 2-1-2)

Drew 2-2 vs The Warpstone-Union (Underworld, 1-2-2)

The Monkeys let slip a major chance of victory against an uncontrollable force of goblins and rats and now find themselves teetering in the playoff race. The glass canons of Norsica were dishing out and receiving pain in equal measure but were ultimately helpless in stopping the wondrous one-turn TD from Ungag.

Team News: Sigurôrvôr (smashed knee) misses out and faces a fight to save his career.

Next up: Prancing Pictises (Pro Elves, 3-1-0)

Bottom 8

9. Underearth Assassins (8▼1) (Dark Elves, 1-4-0)

vs The Wokens (Vampires 1-1-0)

Bye

Team News: Full squad

Next up: Mersey Scythe (Necromantics, 4-0-1)

10. LT’s Metal Heads (6▼4) (Humans, 2-1-2)

Lost 2-5 vs Kouillus (Skaven, 2-2-1)

After a lively start which saw LTMH trade blows and split 4 TDs in the first half, the Lilywhites were on the receiving end of a second half mauling that they couldn’t recover from. It was an opportunity missed as a win would have taken strides to playoff security; instead, the Metal Heads will be looking over their shoulder as the rest of the QDC close in.

Team News: Cophalic Carnage (Broken jaw) misses out

Next up: Property Brothers (Chaos Dwarfs 1-0-4)

11. The Warpstone-Union (11↔) (Underworld, 1-2-2)

Drew 2-2 vs Arktech Monkeys (Norse, 2-1-2)

An entertainingly late flurry from the Union kept their playoff hopes intact after falling behind late in the game. It took every ounce of luck to overcome animosity and all obstacles for Ungag and crew to seal an unlikely draw and keep within the reckoning.

Team News: Tobsnik (fractured skull) faces retirement. There may be a new thrower in the team

Next up: Haradrim Raiders (Chaos, 4-0-1)

12. Pallbearers Guests (15▲3) (Undead, 1-0-4)

Won 2-0 vs Golden Eternals of Chaqua (Lizardmen, 1-0-4)

The Pallbearers produced the upset of the season with a magnificent 2-0 win against the blue-skinned lizards of Chaqua. The victory keeps their slim hopes of a playoff berth, but more importantly, the result boosts the beleaguered Undead morale and will be buoyed for the remainder of the campaign. The numerous journeymen mercenaries swelled the Guests ranks and were always numerically superior – a fact that eventually stemmed the rotting season.

Team News: Davitín (fractured skull) misses out.

Next up: Old School Baby (Khemri, 3-1-1)

13. Golden Eternals of Chaqua (12▼1) (Lizardmen, 1-0-4)

Lost 0-2 vs Pallbearers’ Guests (Undead, 1-0-4)

Golden Eternals were scythed down to size after going into this crunch game as firm-favourites. With 500k+ as overdog and facing an army of Undead loners, the GEC went into this game confident, however, their best-laid plans were torn to shred in a rapid double-whammy from their foes. There was scant time to recover the game, but is there enough time to salvage the season? Rooted to the bottom at this critical junction means relegation – a thought that seemed impossible at the start of the season!

Team News: Oatlgor de l’Aube (pinched nerve) misses out.

Next up: Loschaotic Rotten Posse (Nurgle, 2-1-2)

14. The Wokens (13▼1) (Vampires 1-1-0)

vs Underearth Assassins (1-4-0)

An imp

Team News: Full squad.

Next up: Kouillus (Skaven, 2-2-1)

15. Cornes Flakes (16▲1) (Chaos, 1-0-4)

Won 3-0 vs Property Brothers (Chaos Dwarfs 1-0-4)

Cornes Flakes chalked up their first victory of the campaign with some style as they routed the heavily depleted Chorfs. The win has put the Flakers back in playoff contention and will be buoyed that they managed to mix style with the iron horned slaughter in unprecedented success. Morale will be high for the coming encounters and they cannot be dismissed from the playoff race!

Team News: Granli Groin (broken ribs) misses out.

Next up: Curse of Zandri (Khemri 2-2-1)

16. Property Brothers (14▼2) (Chaos Dwarfs 1-0-4)

Lost 0-3 vs Cornes Flakes (Chaos, 1-0-4)

Chorfen woes continue this season as their once famed armour was shredded by a rampaging horde of horned goats. The Bull Centaurs, giants in stature and reputation, were kept in check and could not recover from trouble spots, which ultimately caused the Property Brothers to lose this critical game. Games are fast running out to avoid the dreaded drop.

Team News:

Next up: LT’s Metal Heads (Humans, 2-1-2)
