The Amazone Prime delivered the masterful display against a depleted Golden Eternals to claim bragging rights in the first Lustrian Derby of the QMLS.

Suffering injuries to two key sauruses in previous rounds took their toll as the ladies capitalised on the lack of pitch control normally associated with the scaly felons of Chaqua.

A poor kick that landed off-field allowed Amazone to exert control of the ball, whilst tying up the big hitting lizards. Agamede Andro handed off to Atanes Camilla, who swiftly made progress upfield with the aim of a quick score.

Their hubris in conquering the ball was punished with an unexpectedly fine tackle by the stunty skink, Otl du Lac, who promptly stole the ball and run into midfield.

With the sauruses all marked, Otl was unprotected and struggled to dodge through the lines of Amazonians, who expertly tightened the noose. A failed dodge caused a game-ending injury for Otl, who was soon followed by a legion of fellow skinks in the infirmary.

An angered Camilla charged back from her sacking to inflict a gloriously murderous hit on Oatl du Lac, the latter surviving death by the swift emergency intervention. The blitzer popped the ball into the grateful grasp of local mercenary, Alkithoe Huntress.

Worries in the Chaqua ranks as to who would be fit enough to carry the ball filtered through the crowd, and uncomfortable murmurings became a crescendo of a disapproving rally to arms as Huntress found herself surviving a powerful blitz to break the deadlock at the stroke of half-time.

With four skinks out for the count, the Golden Eternals began the second half down 7 vs 9, and their problems were compounded by a perfect defence for their Lustrian counterparts.

Once more the sauruses failed to unshackle their “inferior” markers to leave the skinks open to the abuse best reserved at an abattoir. Zerynthia Thraso wriggled through a thin gap to scoop the loose ball from Oatluax’s snout and then survive the onslaught of furious blocking from the demoralised lizards.

Thraso did not have it all her way as the gigantic Kroxigor, Krocyutc, pinned his tail into the thigh of the ball carrier and brought her down, forcing the fumble.

The game was embroiled by hit after counter-hit after counter-hit as neither side could muster the ammo to control the game. The chaos favoured the Amazons, as time slipped away. A spirited rush by Oatlux midway through the half, almost secured an unlikely equaliser, but after his injury at the hands of Tereis Evadne, all hope of a draw faded.

Hypsipyle Queen of Stars was left unopposed to kill the tie 2-0 and claim a famous win over their illustrious Lustrian luminaries. With blood, brawn and brains on display, expect a challenge from either side in the hunt for the play-offs.

It’s only Week 3, however, so nothing is set in stone in the race to become champions of the Quiçama MiddleLands Superleague.

Mango’s Valuable Player: Atanes Camilla, who was key to removing the pesky skinks, sacked and recovered the ball to setup the initial score. Her intuitive playmaking vision was the difference in the Lustrian Derby.
