Amazone Prime registered their first win in their franchise history with a hard-fought battle with their undead hosts. The treacherous pitch conditions proved decisive in the game’s ultimate outcome in favour of the ladies of Amazonia.
The persistent blizzard did not hamper the spirits of the ardent fans, who travelled to Farmer Maggot’s cabbage field as the QMLS league continued to impose their harsh rulings due to earlier crowd disturbances. The organisers continue to struggle to resolve the situation as kick-off was delayed due to the rioting at the stands.
But once the game was underway, the fans were instantly treated to a bloody contest, Smekhare Tyrant setting the tone with a thunderous injury-inflicting blow with the game’s first punch.
Helmut shed the awful experiences in his first game as he was tasked with picking the touchback. He approached midfield under protection, but the right flank was soon swamped by the defence.
Some creative blocking made space for Agamede Andro to mark the ball carrier but was easily repelled for Helmut to switch flank. The left was not so well protected and the gaps were exploited for Alkithoe Eumache to shoot through and sack Helmut. A fortuitous bounce bobbed into the clutches of Alkippe who dodged and passed her way out of trouble only to see the ball scatter away from the intended receiver.
The shambling zombie, Tom Post-Morten, killed key catcher Antianora Pleiades to set up a frenetic end to the half with many players removed from the pitch. It seemed the Resurrection had the numbers to scramble back into position but they didn’t count for a splendid dive for the ball by mercenary Telepyleia who scooped the ball and swept through the tackles of the frustrated undead.
Ghoul Marrowravager had numerous chances to bring the ball loose, but a stiff arm from Telepyleia and the icy astrogranite could not prevent the opening score late in the first half.
The torrid weather continued to wreak havoc in the second half as the Primes begun with a slipped pickup. The Darklands could not capitalise as the great Mummy, Smekhare, was downed on the line of scrimmage. It was an opportunity that proved too tempting for Agamede Andro who stuck a foot into the prone giant’s corpse in full view of the referee and was sent off for her troubles.
The ball was eventually picked up by Alkithoe Emuache, who showed elegance with the ball as she snuck through the slightest of gaps in the Darkland’s defence to hand off to Atanea Camilla, the blitzer proved difficult to bring down. Helmut would testify as he blitzed through the open, sacked the carrier only to slip on the ice as he went for the pickup. Camilla readied herself and carried on downfield – ball in hand.
It was Marrowravager’s turn to blitz but he knocked himself cold as he too slipped on the awful surface. Angry and frustrated, the remaining defenders went hunting for slaughter and but Leo the Stiff suffered a pinched nerve as he too slipped on his way to blitzing Atanea.
The weather greatly assisted in Camilla converting the killer touchdown, as she ran in with mere seconds left on the clock.
Amazone Prime will feel relieved leaving the pitch with victory and an intact corp of blitzers to face their reptilian opponents the Golden Eternals of Chaqua in the first ever QMLS Lustrian Derby.
Darklands will be cursing their misfortune on the ice, but will console themselves with the threat that they carry into the their next fixture. The undead will be resolute in shaking off the lack of luck in their opening 2 games.
Mango’s Valuable Player: Alkithoe Emuache’s key first half sack set the foundations for the first touchdown, and her nimble footwork with the ball carved open the chance for Camilla to score the decisive second.
